Player Spotlight: Trey Terrell

Osbourn Park is still in the midst of a long delay since their last game versus Freedom on December 17th. Last week I kicked off Osbourn Park's Player Spotlight series with freshman RJ Jones. This week we keep things rolling with sophomore guard Trey Terrell.

1. When did you start playing basketball?

I started playing basketball at four years old in the Buddy Ball League at the Manassas Park Community Center.

2. What about it interested you?

My mom played basketball, and my dad played football which made me interested in playing sports all together.

3. Favorite players growing up and/or ones you model your game after?

Growing up KOBE and Lebron were my favorite players. If I had to say who I model my game after, it would be Trey Young.

4. Did you play any other sports growing up?

I used to play football, baseball and run track also.

5. You attack the basket often. What's your mentality when going up against the bigs on other teams?

The first thing I’m thinking is don't get my shot blocked. My mentality is to make the right play, either take it up strong or kick it out to my teammate for the open shot.

6. What hobbies do you enjoy when not playing basketball?

I’m a ladies man so I enjoy hanging out with the girls, playing video games, and making Tik Toks with my brothers. But I eat, drink and sleep basketball 24/7.

7. What goals did you set for yourself prior to the season?

My personal goals were to average double figures, be the best defensive player in the conference and make first team all conference. My team goals would be to win our conference and make it to the playoffs.

8. How would you describe the energy of the team and your role on it?

I feel like the team looks at me as a leader, when I’m playing well the team also plays well by feeding off my energy and body language. Your best offensive game is your best defensive game.

9. What goals did you set for yourself academically?

This year I wanted to maintain at least a 3.0 and above average.

10. Favorite class and why?

PE is my favorite class. My PE teacher this year used to coach at OP so were always talking basketball or watching basketball videos.

11. Least favorite class and why?

Art would be my least favorite class. I’m definitely not an artist.

12. Thoughts on the 5-3 start?

It’s not where I want to be, but it’s a better start then last year. Each game we lost we had a chance to win, and have showed we can compete anybody.

13. Thoughts on the tournament in NJ being canceled?

I think it was good that it was canceled. It was a good break for us to rest our bodies since we had some injuries and we were going to be missing some of our players. It gave us a chance to get healthy and prepare for conference play.

14. With the team last having played on 12/17, are you or your teammates concerned about being rusty when you all play next?

I’m not worried since I have been in the gym everyday. I hope my teammates are hungry to get back on the court just like I am.

15. What was the best part about winter break?

The best part was celebrating my sixteenth birthday and getting my first tattoo.

16. Do you have any games circled on the calendar, or do you take the season one game at a time?

The one game I have circled is the rematch against Freedom South Riding.  Everything else is just one game at a time.

17. You're known to be great at stealing the ball. What's the key to it for you?

Anticipation is key when going after the ball. I have to stay low, beat my man to his spot, play smart and use my quickness to my advantage.

19. Finish this sentence: Success for the team this season would be _____.

Winning our conference.

Trey and his OP teammates get back to conference action this Monday, January 10th for a 7:30 tipoff at Battlefield. For more on OP basketball visit their website and follow them on Twitter @OPJacketshoops

Osbourn Park would like to thank all their sponsors for the 2021-2022 season:
