Osbourn Park Falls on Road to John Champe

Osbourn Park faced John Champe for the second time in two nights. While it was far more competitive than their 71-58 loss Tuesday night, the Yellow Jackets would lose 59-52.

Champe used a quick start Tuesday night to gain firm control of the game. On Wednesday, OP was dialed in immediately on both sides of the ball. With both teams knotted at 6, sophomore guard Trey Terrell would find fellow sophomore guard Tavyahn Faison for a three-pointer to take a 9-6 lead. The strong play would continue and Osbourn Park led 16-12 after the first quarter.

The Knights would answer and kick off the second quarter with a 10-3 run to go up 22-19. Junior guard Ralph Martino would throw down an electrifying dunk followed by a few layups from his teammates. The Yellow Jackets would answer right back a few  minutes later, taking a 27-26 lead via a Daniel Salguero free throw. Junior big man Cam Portis would take a timely charge to give OP the ball back. Despite the gritty effort, Champe would take a slim 29-27 lead into halftime.

OP looked to pick up where they left off when in the third when senior guard Logan Dwyer would steal a ball from the Knights and draw a shooting foul on the way to the basket. He'd hit 1 of 2 and finish with 9 points on the night (2-3 from the three point line.) The Knights would take a 43-41 lead into the final quarter.

Things would get a but chippy in the fourth quarter during a scramble for the ball. Portis would be lying on the ground awaiting to get up when a Champe player intentionally dropped the basketball on his head. Portis would shove him and receive a technical foul along with his opponent.

Cam would wind up with the ball again and draw a foul while making the basket. His missed free throw would be his only on the night. (2-3).

With 7:13 to go in the game, Trey Terrell would draw a foul and get the game to within 4 points. Faison would draw another foul a few minutes later to make it 47-43, John Champe.

Trey would draw another foul on a hapless defender and sink two more free throws to give him 10 points on the night and get within three points at 50-47.

The home team would use the next two minutes to go on a small run, up 56-47 with 2:17 left to go.

Josh Okuadido would use an offensive rebound to get the ball back, but it was stolen from him. Okuadido would finish with another double-double that included 13 points and 10 rebounds. Osbourn Park's final basket would come when Logan Dwyer drilled a three-pointer off the glass to make the score 59-52.

Osbourn Park finished shooting 45% and 6-16 (38%) from beyond the arc while going 12-18 at the free throw line. The team would have a season-high 13 assists. The previous high was 12.

Osbourn Park is now 8-10 on the season, with two games left this week. Thursday night they travel to Unity Reed and Friday they are at Osbourn. Both are senior nights for the respective schools.
